DESIGN STUDIO I : RESIDENTIAL

RESIDENTIAL:  “TERRACE APARTMENT”

LOCATION: KHAR, MUMBAI

AREA: 1989 sq,ft.

CONCEPT:    The inspiration for the project was an abstract image, which was a stainless colored glass. The whole idea was to just extract shapes from the image and convert them into rooms or any other residential block. The entire layout of the house was linear and symmetrical. The main geometrical shape was that of a square and thus converted into various rooms – public and private space.

BRIEF:          The whole idea of this project was to utilize the terrace area of your building and create a residential terrace apartment. Thus, with the help of my inspirational image I abstracted various shapes and hence came up with a simple geometrical shape, which is a square. I placed it in a very symmetrical form and public spaces such as the temple, pool area and living room have been given a different shape.
The temple is elevated at the height of 2’6” and the living room is placed at the centre giving a very curvy outline. The pool area is generally circular and so just to go in lines with the terrace layout I placed the pool area on the left hand side.
I live in a joint family and so I have two master bedrooms, two kids room, a lounge cum library, gym area, kitchen cum dining – divided with a glass partition, living room, pool area and a temple.
The color scheme of the terrace apartment is beige, yellow, lavender and white. The outside exposed area and the cantilevers have been given a very grassy effect thus giving the feeling of walking in the park right under moon.
